Condition: Used. This Cincinnati Sub Zero chamber is used and tested.  It makes -73C and features a Watlow F4 controller.  The controller and refrigerants used were retrofitted.

Notes: When we acquired this chamber we noted satisfactory refrigeration performance but off-plan wiring errors incurred during the Watlow F4 retrofit prevented correct operation.  A qualified technician revised and clarified the wiring resulting in predictable operation.  The R-404A refrigerant charge was removed and replaced with fresh refrigerant in the correct amount after bubbles were observed in the sight glass.  At the same time the two gauges were replaced with new liquid-filled gauges from Cincinnati Sub Zero since one of the gauges was not indicating correctly.  The low pressure gauge has a manual vent; it was left open to improve accuracy. The Potter & Brumfield relays were replaced with Allen Bradley units as the P&B ones are known to cause trouble.  Two SSRs were added to implement I/O to the Watlow F4.  Other than the changes made to accommodate the F4 the wiring was restored to normal in accordance with the Cincinnati schematic.  One of the compressors was replaced but we could not determine when since there’s only about 1” clearance to the top of the compressor.  After all was said and done the unit was tested again.  The system runs quietly without any odd noises.  At some point a refrigerant retrofit was done to both refrigeration systems.  Power can be 240 or 208V one or three phase depending on connection used.  The chamber must remain under power for one day before running because a crankcase heater prevents slugging the R-404A compressor.  A 4 conductor 8AWG pigtail of about 3’ is included; it is sufficient for three phase operation.  F4 controllers are available on eBay at around $500; this chamber wont leave you in a lurch if the controller dies.  PID autotune was performed at -35C.
